The GBS alumni living in the Greater Washington Region (Maryland & Northern Virginia) came together on 6th June 2019 for a BBQ party to commemorate the 54th ‘GBS Foundation Day’.

“It’s just a good feeling to be able to meet with fellow ex-students of GBS.” Hari ‘Rasik’ Ghimire, the host and organizer of the BBQ/Dinner, said. “The BBQ party was epic! It was a sea of food, fun, and love.” Prakash Nepal, one of the most senior members of the event, added.

Encouraged by the overwhelming response from the EGBOSA community in DC, they are going to hold similar events throughout the year. Alumni are encouraged to organize similar events in their respective cities/states. Please send pictures of those festivities to [email protected] so that we can post them to our webpage and Facebook page.

Gopal Shrestha Becomes First HIV-Infected Climber to Summit Mount Everest

June 7, 2019 0 comments Egbosa USA

Gopal Shrestha, 56, became the first HIV-infected person to summit the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest on May 22, 2019 at 08:15 a.m. He contracted AIDS about 25 years ago through syringe injection. Mr. Shrestha, also a former football player of Nepali national team, hails from Ratnachowk, Pokhara, and is an ex-student of Gandaki Boarding School (2037 S.L.C.). It was his second attempt at scaling Mt. Everest; he had previously tried to scale the highest peak in 2015, but he could not continue the mission due to the earthquake. Mr. Shrestha’s ascent to the top of the world is an attempt to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS in the world. He has proven that HIV/AIDS infection is no bar to live the life with joy and full of purpose, and HIV-infected persons are no less determined than any other human beings if an opportunity comes in their ways. Please check out a short documentary made by our own filmmaker Saroj Sapkota (S.L.C. 2053).

EGBOSA-North America Observes GBS Foundation Day

June 7, 2019 0 comments Egbosa USA

EGBOSA-North America is celebrating GBS Foundation Day on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, with GBS’s alumni, past and present principals, vice principals, teachers, support staff, and well-wishers from all over the world via conference call. It is a significant day for all of us to reflect not only on the history of our alma mater but also to honour and pay homage to the founders of the school and those who contributed to its continued success. On this auspicious day, EGBOSA-North America would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to United Mission to Nepal (UMN), Nepal government, and local community for establishing a quintessential boarding school and nurturing it through thick and thin. Long live GBS!

EGBOSA North America met for the first time on 02/15/2019 at 9:00 p.m. EST via a conference call. It was attended by ex-students of Gandaki Boarding School residing in U.S. and Canada along with our venerable ex-teachers – Mr.  Bamdev Sharma and Shiva Lal Dhital. Mr. Mohan Gyawali presided over the meeting. He went over the agenda of the meeting and informed everyone about the registration of EGBOSA USA Inc. in the U.S. All the attendees observed a minute of silence over the demise of late Mr. Howard Barclay, a founding member of Gandaki Boarding School and father of our ex- Principal, Mr. John Barclay. After all the attendees introduced themselves to everyone, our respected teacher Mr. Shiva Lal Dhital went over the life and contribution of late Mr. Howard Barclay.  That was followed by a power point presentation on the importance of EGBOSA North America and its plans by Mr. Hari Rasik Ghimire.
